You are a writer.
It’s in your blood.
You were born to do this.
Almost everyone wants to “write a book someday”
but you’ve gone ahead and done it.
Good for you.
Now what?
Lucky you, you have come to the right place.
Because editing is in my blood. I am The Finicky Editor and I was born to do this. I spent a good portion of my life being irritated at seeing every little mistake in something, craving perfection but finding it rarely. I have turned that negative into a positive and I want to help you succeed as a writer. Together let’s take your manuscript from friends and relatives saying, “Hey, that’s a great story,” to readers raving, “What an awesome book! I can’t wait for the next one.”
It’s time to take your DREAM to the next level and trust your editing to someone who cares as much about your story as you do.
I am The Finicky Editor and I am passionate about editing and writing~~I take quality very seriously.
Attention to detail is much more than a catchphrase to me.
I employ a per-word fee structure in order to simplify the process and make it easier for you, the writer, to estimate the cost ahead of time. I will never give you a surprise invoice in excess of the agreed amount. If extra work needs to be done during the course of the contracted edit, any additional fees will always be discussed prior to commencement.
I won’t say I am 100% ~ that would be cavalier. However, I always strive for it, and I tend to find things others have missed. I am often hired to fix previously “professionally” edited work.
Your success is my success and my clients will all tell you that I go above and beyond expectations ~ every time.
I have an innate ability to maintain the author’s/character’s voice when editing. I am well-versed in both US English as well as Canadian/British usage.
EXCITING NEW OFFER ~ SPACE IS LIMITED:
Writer’s Boot-camp – Hooah
Writer’s Boot-camp is an intensive one-on-one assessment/coaching/editing experience.
Beyond the scope of the standard manuscript assessment or edit, it involves a week-by-week, two chapter at a time approach. We start with an assessment on the chapters where you are given prompts, direction, suggestions and examples of how to improve your work. The assignment document is sent back to you for revisions over a two- to three-day period. After you have completed your revisions the chapters are sent back to me for complete editing. If there are any areas where the manuscript still requires improvement I will make those revisions during the editing process, complete with comments and teaching elements so that you hone your writing skills as we work together to get your manuscript in top form.
Like any self-respecting Boot-camp, there will be days where I push you to complete your exercises, but, also like any good Boot-camp, the results will be so worth it. Clients are raving about this process and I have decided to offer it as a regular part of my services. Spots are limited though, so book ahead. The entire process can take around eight weeks depending on the length of your manuscript, and payments are broken down in biweekly portions making it affordable.
Not only will you see the results in your final draft but you will also see results in yourself as a writer. Learn to think like an editor and write for your readers. This is “Pursuing Your Dream 101″ ~ sign up today.

Other Services:
First 10 Pages Editing with Edit Notes
For a flat-rate fee, I will do a substantive edit on the first 10 pages of your manuscript, including edit notes, to check for quality and content. I will give you suggestions for things you need to improve or focus on in the remainder of the manuscript. This includes everything that is included in a line-by-line copy-edit, plus ideas to help you improve your opening paragraph and how to make your characters authentic and relatable.
Thorough Line-by-Line Copy-editing
Fees range from .015 to .025 cents per word.
This is by far the most requested service. It is thorough and covers all the bases. I work by CMOS (Chicago Manual of Style) standards unless otherwise requested.
Grammar; punctuation; spelling; capitalization errors; typos; incorrect or awkward word usage; redundancies in word usage; sentence structure and flow; inconsistencies throughout the manuscript, whether in narrative voice, characters or point of view (I am a POV specialist); plus, assessing clarity, sense and the overall structure. Fact checking and basic formatting can be added to this service for an additional fee.
Substantive Editing or Rewriting
Fees range from .03 to .05 cents per word.
Choose this if you need a deeper edit to address issues such as juggling multiple/mixed POVs, or you require extensive revisions and rewriting, if you have writer’s block in some areas or you just can’t write the perfect ending. This will have all the above-mentioned elements plus any specific revisions needed to polish your manuscript to a publishing-ready shine. All changes are made in-line with Track Changes feature enabled. You always have the final say and can accept or decline any changes or edits I make. I always provide an abundance of comments in order to clarify any changes I make and why. Comments also include any questions I may have or items that require author clarification, as well as verbal pats-on-the-back for all those things you do great.
Turnaround time is dependent on the services contracted and will be assessed for timing on a project-by-project basis at time of quote. Currently I cannot accept rush jobs, as I am booking several weeks in advance; however, feel free to check on my availability if required. There would be an increased fee for this service.
All rates are extremely competitive and will be quoted in US and Canadian dollars. These rates apply to electronic editing of Microsoft Word documents. I accept payment by PayPal. A 2.9% processing fee will be waived for first-time clients.
